Protomartyr remet une pièce dans le jukebox du post-punk avec un nouvel album pour Domino

Trois ans après le très bon Relatives In Descent et deux ans après la ré-édition de No Passion All Technique, Protomartyr annonce la sortie prochaine de leur cinquième album, Ultimate Succes Today. Armés de la colère nonchalante qui les caractérise si bien, Joe Casey et sa bande viennent d'en offrir le premier aperçu, "Processed By The Boys". Le morceau est accompagné d'un clip absurde dans lequel le présentateur d'un show télévisé assez cheap reprend les paroles du morceau tout en étant constamment dérangé par une personne du public. Assez incompréhensible pour un œil non avisé, ce clip est en fait inspiré d'une vidéo mexiciaine qui obsédait le groupe au moment de la création de l'album. Une private joke qui prend donc la forme d'un clip finalement.

Au sujet de l'album Ultimate Succes Today, voilà ce que Joe Casey nous dit : "The re-release of our first album had me thinking about the passage of time and its ultimate conclusion. Listening to No Passion All Technique again, I could hear myself hoping for an introduction and a long future, but also being cognizant that it could be 'one and done' for us. So, when it came time to write Ultimate Success Today, I was reminded of that first urgency and how it was an inverse of my current grapple with how terribly ill I’ve been feeling lately. Was that sick feeling colouring how I felt about the state of the world or was it the other way around?

This panic was freeing in a way. It allowed me to see our fifth album as a possible valediction of some confusingly loud five-act play. In the same light I see it as an interesting mile marker of our first decade of being a band - a crest of the hill along a long highway. Although just to cover my bases, I made sure to get my last words in while I still had the breath to say them."

Ultimate Succes Today sortira le 29 mai sur la Domino Recording Company. Le groupe sera le 29/04 à la Boule Noire et le 05/05 aux Nuits Bota dans le cadre d'une soirée post-punk assez alléchante, puisqu'on croisera également black midi, Porridge Radio et Black Country, New Road.
