Four Tet et Madlib réunis en janvier sur un album collaboratif

Four Tet comme Madlib ont toujours été de grands amateurs de la démarche collaborative : Four Tet a notamment bossé avec Neneh Cherry, le batteur de jazz Steve Reid, ou encore Thom Yorke et Burial très récemment. Quant à Madlib, la liste est bien plus longue, mais on citera quand même les noms de MF Doom, Freddie Gibbs ou J Dilla accrochés à son immense tableau de chasse.

Du coup, on imagine que la collaboration entre l'Anglais et l'Américain, qui se matérialisera sur l'album Sound Ancestors, a dû se passer sans anicroche. Pour en avoir la confirmation, il ne faudra pas attendre bien longtemps puisque ledisque sortira déjà en janvier 2021.

Pour le premier extrait, ça se passe juste en-dessous. Et pour les quelques mots de Four Tet au sujet du disque, c'est juste après ce "Road of the Lonely Ones" qui réussit le petit exploit de combiner leurs univers respectifs sans que l'ensemble ne sonne forcé ou déplacé.

"A few months ago I completed work on an album with my friend Madlib that we’d been making for the last few years. He is always making loads of music in all sorts of styles and I was listening to some of his new beats and studio sessions when I had the idea that it would be great to hear some of these ideas made into a Madlib solo album. Not made into beats for vocalists to use but instead arranged into tracks that could all flow together in an album designed to be listened to start to finish. I put this concept to him when we were hanging out eating some nice food one day and we decided to work on this together with him sending me tracks, loops, ideas and experiments that I would arrange, edit, manipulate and combine. I was sent hundreds of pieces of music over a couple of years stretch and during that time I put together this album with all the parts that fitted with my vision." Kieran Hebden
